Annotation
The history of this album is a bit complicated and vague.
- In 1995 Sleep, under a contract with London Records, recorded a 63 minute song version of the song. (Apparently it was called Dopesmoker.) The label refused the tape.
- Sleep reworked the song into a 52 minute version, called Jerusalem, which is the version on this page. It seems there was a promo or a demo pressed by or for London Records, which was also rejected (it's not clear if there was any distribution). The band then distributed as a “semi-bootleg” this version (apparently under the make-believe label “Dopesmoker Records”, with a different cover) in about 1000 copies. Both of these happened in 1997.
- In 1998 Rise Above Records licensed the rights to the song, and released it split into six parts. (The split was against the band's wishes. It is not clear if the audio is otherwise the same.)
- Tee Pee Records released in 2003 the original 63-minute version of the song, as Dopesmoker (though it seems it was at least remastered). This makes it the first version created but the last version released of the song.
- Southern Lord re-released this 63-minute version of the song in 2012.
